The Capacity building for Female Scientists in East Africa (CAFÉ-SEA) fellowship program , supported by EDCTP, operates within the Eastern Africa Consortium for Clinical Research (EACCR). The fellowship program addresses the under-representation of women in infectious diseases research in the Eastern Africa region. Recognizing the challenges faced by women in academic science careers, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, CAFÉ-SEA aims to enhance research capacity by providing multidisciplinary PhD training of female scientists from under-represented countries in the region. This initiative is crucial, especially in the context of increased epidemics of emerging/remerging diseases like Ebola and COVID-19, demanding skilled scientists for effective patient management and epidemic response
